Everyone knows it takes a village to raise a child. Each member of your village plays a key role in your child’s life. Since Maya’s diagnosis I have been very selective about who can be apart of our village aka “Team Maya.” From her preschool to playmates, I have done my best to provide Maya with an encouraging environment. The members of “Team Maya” have a special place in my heart and I’d like to take the time to say thank you to all of you.
The past weeks have been chaotic, stressful and overall not very fun. As a family we have dealt with some crazy issues from the Baltimore riots (Maya’s daddy is a Baltimore City police officer) to sick kids and an ill mommy. Over these stressful times, I’ve done my best to maintain a calm, positive household and I did my best to keep the same weekly routine. However, as much as I tried, I could not get through these trying times without “Team Maya.”
Childhood Apraxia of Speech can be very overwhelming. Monday through Thursday we attend therapy. There is always a scramble to get out of the door. Over these last few weeks, I could not have overcome the stress without the help from Team Maya.
Team Maya consist of some key players and each has taken on a new identity because Maya, unable to say their names, affectionately renamed these individuals. I would not be able to navigate my way through this journey without these precious people. They are there for me when I feel overwhelmed, listening to me when my thoughts get the best of me. Their ongoing encouragement and support are constant and I will forever be grateful.
More importantly, these key players have helped Maya on her journey with CAS. The are her biggest cheerleaders and some of her greatest teachers. Our key players are always eager to hear about Maya’s progress and they help us with Maya’s speech homework. We are so lucky to have a great group of people that love our little girl so much.
Thank you key players and Maya’s biggest fans. We have a lot of love for you: Pop, Pop’s Maw Maw, Nanny, J, T, Pick, T’s Maw Maw, Pawpaw, NeNe, Nanny’s T & Jake
